Diving into an Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Turdy Character with the Goal to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered a variety of entertaining creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a protagonist that is actually a dung striving to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: just use a single jump button. Throughout numerous stages, battle mini-bosses and visit a store to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.

Time your actions with caution, as a mistake means beginning again. Jump off floating orbs to hurl yourself upward, cross crumbling platforms, and interact with switches to unlock hidden paths. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on tougher stages where the action gets crazy.

Visually, the demo boasts eye-catching level designs and an amazing background music. The simple art with moving geometric shapes evokes memories of players of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to think of previous releases where you play as a dung character, interactive entertainment often incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. And of course, fecal references is present extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive recognition, including taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is available currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on computers this November.
